OUR UNIQUE SOURCE OF CREATION LIFE

The Gift of our Lord's Love-feast to us - Communion

Let us commence by quietly perusing 1 Corinthians 11 : 23-27(Amp)

‘For I received from the Lord Himself that which I passed on to you [ it was given to me personally ], that the Lord Jesus on the night when He was treacherously delivered up and while His betrayal was in progress took bread.

And when He had given thanks, He broke (it) and said, Take, eat. This is My body, which is broken for you. Do this to call Me (affectionately) to rememberance.

Similarly when supper was ended, He took the cup also, saying,  this cup is the new covenant (ratified and established) in My blood. Do this as often as you drink (it), to call Me (affectionately) to rememberance.

For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are representing and signifying and proclaiming the fact of the Lord’s death until He comes again.’

Volumes have been written on these passages, yet the enormous Godly power that flowed so freely and fully in the early church (see Acts) became historic, rather than ongoing. Yet we personally know that it is here for those who repent at depth, and when other deep needs are met. And the love of God is absolutely beautiful and fulfilling and tremendously personal. It is life.

And therefore the foundation of our Christian walks is The  Cross of Jesus at Calvary. The Cross is central for the forgiveness of our sins and our justification - a fixed point in God’s pattern for the redemption of man from between the ages before the world and the eternity ahead.

A recent writer wrote : 'The Holy spirit will function and work only according to the Finished Work of Christ, and that in every respect. In other words He functions totally and completely in the parameters of that great sacrifice.'

(see Romans 8:2)

What follows is our sharing from our own experience of some of the aspects of our Lord's  Love- feast.

Incidentally for our own purposes and so that our former alcoholic brothers and sisters do not stumble (Romans 14:21), we have chosen non-alcoholic grape-juice, and we use either bread, wafers, crackers, or crispbread.
